Hi I’m Coralie Hurley, a keen and passionate property investor. This is a snapshot of my journey but I would love for you to share in some of my experiences by reading my blog and learn from some of my successes and more importantly my failures.

Road to discovering my passion

My husband Paul and I started our life together at the age of 19 & 20 with two car loans, one of which had been repossessed due to not doing a rev's check. However, after a lot of hard work, many lessons learnt and an unstoppable entrepreneurial spirit we have both become leaders in our area of expertise.

Starting out

Our passion for property began as newlyweds heading to a remote mining site in WA, Bellevue 450kms north of Kalgoorlie. While Paul was working in the mines, I was busy renovating caravans (not to mention compiling the job list for Paul to complete on weekends), which later became our ticket into the property market and enabled Paul to start his own mining company. It was amidst living in a caravan on a remote mine site that Paul and I started our unplanned family of four children.

Little did we know the next chapter of our lives would be filled with raising a tribe of kids, buying, renovating and selling properties, and running a successful mining company that later went on to win the prestigeous "Telstra WA Business of the Year 2007" & "Telstra Australian Region Business of the Year 2007", not to mention living on a remote  minesite and having our third child under 6 months of age, airlifted to Perth by the Royal Flying Doctor Service 3 times for emergency operations. Talk about chaos!

The light bulb moment

In 2003 I took a well deserved five day break to attend a two and half hour property investing seminar in Perth, which changed my life. When the seminar was over I stayed on to find out more about a course being held 3 weeks later in Sydney. I told Janeen my Aunty who attended the seminar with me that I would love to go but Paul wouldn’t. Janeen said, “isn’t Paul the ‘Mining Man’ and aren’t you the ‘Property Girl’.” Her words hit me like a lightening bolt – I loved property!

I thought about what Paul and I had achieved while raising four children and I had the realisation of my love for property investing and renovating. I came to this realisation when reflecting on how many properties I had renovated, how many times I had moved a family of four kids and never found it stressful. I always found it exciting, enjoyed the process and would never have done it if I didn’t love it. I made time for the property investing because I loved it, I was already running the business with Paul and raising four children I didn’t need it……… I wanted to do it!

So I booked myself into the John Burley Automatic Wealth Course in Sydney, which was only the start of it. I wanted to know more. I followed Sydney with a Boot Camp investing course in Phoenix, Arizona, read Rich Dad Poor Dad and anything I could get my hands on about property investing.

I told Paul that I needed to step out of the mining business and pursue my career as a full time property investor.

I had found my passion!

• National Australia Bank, Esperance WA 1996 -1990
• BREEDING PROGRAM (4 children in 4 years) 1990 - 1994
• Commenced a Mining Contracting Company with husband November 1995 with 4 children under the age of 5 years.
• For the next 10 years while working in the mining business, I renovated & developed residential & commercial properties to buy, sell and hold.
• I resigned as Director/ Secretary of Paul's business (1995 – 2006) but still remained working within the business as an employee for the next 2 years part time while pursuing my property investing passion.

• Mining Company Won Goldfields Business of the Year 2004
• Mining Company won Telstra WA Business of the Year 2006
• Mining Company won Telstra Regional Australian Business of the Year 2007
• Resigned, from Mining Company as an employee in 2007, to pursue my passion full time as a Residential and Commercial Property Investor.
• Employed on the Board of Directors. “Goldfields Credit Union” WA 2006-2008 (Resigned due to relocating to QLD)
• Director 1st Property Investment Company since 1995
• Director 2nd Property Investment Company since 2004
• Ronald McDonald Ball Committee member, 2004 – 2007 ($400,000 raised for charity in that time) (Resigned to relocate to Brisbane)
• Relocated to Brisbane January 2007
